FAQ about In Vitro Fertilization

In Vitro Fertilisation is a laboratory technique that allows an egg to be fertilised with a single sperm cell outside the uterus. There are 4 possible IVF procedures: IVF with your own eggs and sperm from your partner, IVF with your own eggs and sperm from a donor, IVF with eggs from a donor and sperm from your partner and IVF with eggs from a donor as well as sperm from a donor.

After retrieving mature eggs from the ovaries, they are fertilised with sperm in the laboratory. Once fertilised, the resulting embryos are implanted in the woman’s uterus.

No waiting list

You can start your treatment when you feel ready, because we are organised in such a way that there is no waiting list.

Previously completed medical examinations

For your convenience, you can do them on the same day as your first visit at a reduced price. If you already have the results of these exams, you can also submit them on your first visit.

The IVF process has a total of five stages:

  • Phase I: Ovarian stimulation
  • Phase II: Ovarian Puncture
  • Phase III: In Vitro Fertilisation and Embryo Culture
  • Phase IV: Embryo Transfer
  • Phase V: Cryopreservation of surplus embryos

The complete In Vitro Fertilisation cycle takes about three or four weeks, depending on the stages needed.

The price varies depending on the IVF method being carried out: There are 5 options.

  • IVF Own eggs and partner’s sperm.
  • IVF Own eggs and donor sperm.
  • IVF Donor eggs and partner sperm.
  • IVF Donor eggs and donor sperm.
  • ROPA Method.

IVF offers higher pregnancy rates than other treatments. The success of the treatment depends on several factors: age, causes of infertility and medical history, the treatment being used and the number of cycles, among others.

The rates among women aged under 35 after three complete cycles are as follows:

  • IVF Own eggs and partner’s sperm: up to 64%
  • IVF Own eggs and donor sperm:  up to 64%
  • IVF Donor eggs and partner sperm: up to 93%
  • IVF Donor eggs and donor sperm: up to 93%

Spanish law authorises assisted reproduction treatment to any woman of legal age who is in good health and up to an age that is considered appropriate.

Normally, eggs lose their reproductive capacity in an irreversible process that often intensifies after the age of 35.

In the most reputable centres and in accordance with good practice guidelines, we have set the age of 50 as the age limit for starting assisted reproduction treatment.

IVF is the ideal technique when there are a number of factors that make one method or another more suitable as a means of achieving pregnancy, such as a problem with the fallopian tubes, male factor infertility, or after several failed insemination cycles among others.

Each method as part of the IVF technique offers certain advantages, depending on the circumstances of the woman, or couple, undergoing treatment. The main advantage is ensuring that the egg is fertilised and that an embryo can be selected for transfer.

It gives women who are unable to become mothers due to their situation or other circumstances the opportunity to become mothers, as well as offering a high chance of success.

Each method under the IVF technique is recommended for different types of women. This type of treatment is recommended in those cases where Artificial Insemination has not worked, for example.

The main requirement for treatment is to have a fertility problem for which IVF is recommended. Then, depending on other factors, we need to know which method suits you best. That is why we will make your diagnosis, which takes between 2 and 3 hours.

The treatment, but also the beginning of pregnancy, can cause pain, tiredness, breast swelling, fluid retention and light bleeding. This is neither a good nor a bad sign, but it is quite common. However, it is generally a very well-tolerated treatment.

The hours immediately following the treatment are very intense emotionally for the patient.

Stimulations cause side effects because of the use of hormones. Some patients don’t feel any discomfort and others suffer from symptoms such as abdominal bloating, and chest swelling, fatigue, water retention in the legs, and mild headaches. If this happens to you, let our medical team know and they will tell you the right course of action to take.

To find out your chances of pregnancy, check out our success rates. After a visit to your doctor, he or she will confirm whether or not they correspond to your particular case.

We need to know which treatment is best suited to you. Therefore, during the first consultation, a specialist in assisted reproduction will assess the medical tests provided in order to reach a diagnosis and be able to advise you on which treatment is the most appropriate in your case. This process takes approximately 2 to 3 hours.

We fertilise an egg with a single sperm cell outside the uterus, which gives a certified chance of pregnancy of as much as 93% in three full IVF cycles, depending on the patient’s age.

We advise you to take the pregnancy test on the date recommended by the doctor, which is around two weeks after completing all the stages of the process.
