ROPA Method

The ROPA method is a variant of In Vitro Fertilization treatment. It is aimed at female couples who decide to have a baby together and want to be actively involved in the pregnancy: one undergoes an ovarian stimulation to extract her eggs and fertilize them and the other receives the embryo in her uterus and carries the pregnancy. With this method, the two women are mothers: one is the biological mother (she provides the egg) and the other is the expectant mother (she gets pregnant).

Is this the method you need?

This is an ideal technique if you are a female couple and you both want to be involved and actively take part in the pregnancy. The treatment consists of hormonally stimulating the woman who donates her eggs and preparing the uterus with oestrogen for the partner receiving the embryo. In the meantime, the donor’s sperm is prepared.

Treatment

The usual assisted reproduction technique for the ROPA method is In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). In this procedure, we fertilize an egg with a sperm outside the uterus, which gives a certified likelihood of pregnancy of as much as 64%.

Before starting treatment

We will make a diagnosis to know what the best treatment for you is, which is a process that takes between 2 and 3 hours.

Phase 1

fase-1-ico

Ovarian stimulation and puncture of the woman who provides the eggs

The woman who provides her eggs undergoes ovarian stimulation at home for about 10-12 days. Using ultrasound and hormonal analysis, the best time is decided for extracting the eggs by means of a mild anaesthesia. The procedure lasts 15 minutes.

Phase 2

fase-2-ico

Fertilization and culture of embryos

A sperm sample from an anonymous donor is thawed, ensuring maximum physical similarity with the woman who will receive the eggs. The eggs are inseminated, and the generated embryos remain between 2 and 6 days until the day of their transfer.

Phase 3

fase-3-ico

Preparation of the endometrium

The pregnant partner must undergo hormonal treatment to prepare her uterus in order to implant the embryo in the future.

Phase 4

ico-transferencia

Embryo transfer

The highest quality embryo is selected to be inserted vaginally into the uterus of the recipient woman. The process is quick and painless, and does not require anaesthesia. About two weeks after the transfer, the recipient woman undergoes a beta-HCG test to confirm pregnancy.

The woman carrying the baby must undergo hormonal treatment to prepare her uterus for the future implantation of the embryo.

Before starting the treatment we will have to make a diagnosis for you. This process takes between two and three hours.

The treatment, but also the beginning of pregnancy, can cause pain, tiredness, breast swelling, fluid retention and light bleeding. This is neither a good nor a bad sign, but it is quite common.

The hours immediately following the treatment are very intense emotionally for the patient.

We are aware that these emotions are intense, so we recommend that you keep your mind occupied on other matters until you take the pregnancy test.

Choosing an assisted reproduction treatment at Eugin means that you have a team of professionals who ensure that you are comfortable, calm and safe at all times. They share your dreams with you and work to help you fulfil your dream of becoming a mother.

The chances of pregnancy following every try in the same cycle in women under 35 years of age is 93%. You can check all the rates on our website.

Eggs lose their reproductive capacity naturally, in an irreversible process that often intensifies from the age of 35 onwards, so rates vary depending on age.

The price for a standard treatment is EUR 5,525. Depending on the characteristics of your case, the treatment could be complemented using other techniques.
